The Cure. A sentence in themselves - hell, more like an entire set of encyclopedias.
This page is not intended to be a educational missive exploring the rise and rise of The Cure. It will not even try to examine why this band has remained popular for over twenty years. If you want that sort of information, use the links provided on my links page.
No, this page will just examine the reasons why I have been a Cure fan for many years and why I enjoy their music - as much as someone with a dark reflective nature can enjoy things.
1. I think Robert Smith is really cute. I don't know if this is the image he intends to portray but that's the way it is. [I'd apologize for that but I'm not sorry so I won't.] I especially like the little grin he gets on his face occasionally - like he does in the 'Lovecats' video.
2. 'Charlotte Sometimes' is one of the most mournful songs I have ever heard. It is not just the lyrics which are haunting but also the way in which Robert sings them. This song is an excellent definition of the word 'forlorn'.
3. I find that their songs inspire my creative side. I was going to say that their music puts me in a good mood but I don't really think that would be an appropriate statement.
4. They have delightfully weird videos.
5. Even in their songs which sound happy, the lyrics can be very bleak. 'Caterpillar' is an excellent example of this. [If you don't believe me, listen closely to it.]
6. They make music that they want to make - rather than succumb to the lure of producing top 40 ditties.
7. They are charitable
in nature but don't make a major issue of it.
8. Robert Smith is really cute. I know I've said that already but I think it's a statement which bears repeating.
9. They wear a lot of black
