I Am Me

© Brodiss 2002

I am me
I am who I am
But for some
That was never enough

It really makes me wonder

Only tragedy allows
The release
Of love and grief
Never known and received

And it makes me wonder

Blood on a blade
Life never to be made
Into a parody of death,
Smiles sweetly
Upon scarred minds
But evil can still laugh

It makes me wonder

Why can't I laugh
On sunshine and clover
Why does the darkness
Close down
Cloaking me
Choking me?

I wonder

Why is freedom
Only an idle daydream
In the wandering minds
Of old and ancient men?

I wonder

Death falls down from the mountain
Dark is light
A nameless statue
In a forgotten garden
Sways and falls
Dust settles slowly
With the passing of age

It makes me wonder

I live and it makes me wonder
