I Tried My Best
Brodiss © 2003I gave it all I could
I tried my best
Striving ceaselessly
Amongst the thunder and consequence
Of each hell-born day
Struggling to make sense
Of a reality that's not my ownTrying to be something
That perception would interpret
As verging on normal
Trying somehow, somewhere
To make sense
In the view of othersI tried so hard
To be all that you would want
All that you would love
I gave so much of myself
Hoping against futile hope
That you'd turn and see me
As something more
Than some malformed foolI tried so hard
Willing to sacrifice all
If only you'd love me
If only you'd care
Chameleon changing in the attempt
To recreate myself
As the object of your desireAll I wanted
Was to deserve your love
But I failed
I failed
I never could be good enoughNow I am left empty-hearted
And soon
Soon
The endless striving will cease
And you will be free
Free of me
